REVAMPED Cradley have their first competitive racing of the season at Birmingham on Wednesday (7.30).

The Heathens, who welcome Tom Perry, Dan Greenwood and Luke Harris back to the team, have four new signings on show in the West Midlands Trophy clash against the reigning league champions.

With the clash against the Brummies coming just a week before their National League opener against King’s Lynn, team boss Will Pottinger says it will be some invaluable track time for his riders.

“Our lads have blown away most of the cobwebs now but practicing by yourself doesn’t do too much at this time of the year,” said Pottinger.

“Competitive track time for the riders is what it’s all about and with our first home meeting being at Perry Barr next week as well, that’s fallen perfectly for us because it means we’ll have an idea of what to run against King’s Lynn.

“Having said that though, we’d be over the moon if we could get one over Birmingham because they’ve had the bragging rights over us for the last 12 months or so.

“A win would also be nice to get a little bit of confidence and momentum going, but more importantly we hope it’s a good workout for our lads.”

Danny Ayres lines-up at No.1 for the Motor Market Heathens for the first time since sealing his switch to the club over the winter, Conor Dwyer and Ryan Burton both make their full debuts for the club while Joe Lawlor will be looking to get among the points after making a good impression in the No.8 role last year.

Fans should note this is a Birmingham-staged fixture at Perry Barr Stadium and therefore Heathens season tickets are not valid.

The meeting with King’s Lynn the following Wednesday is Cradley’s first home fixture at Perry Barr.

BIRMINGHAM: Tom Bacon, Chris Hay, Darryl Ritchings, Jack Parkinson-Blackburn, Danyon Hume, Macauley Leek, Layne Cupitt.

CRADLEY: Danny Ayres, Conor Dwyer, Dan Greenwood, Luke Harris, Tom Perry, Ryan Burton, Joe Lawlor.
