HEATHENS bosses have paid tribute to riders leaving the club in a major revamp this winter.

Reserve duo Ben Basford and Bradley Andrews are free to speak to other teams as they don’t figure in plans for 2017.

And big-hitters Max Clegg and Ashley Morris are now firmly established SGB Championship riders who will figure for Edinburgh and Newcastle respectively.

Heathens co-promoter Gary Patchett said: “It's never pleasant having to tell a rider that you can't accommodate him in your team such as we've had to do recently on more than one occasion.

“More often than not it's how the averages of others fit and I've lost count of how many times I've read recently that speedway is a numbers game!

“It would be wrong to sacrifice the balance of the team for sake of including any particular rider and everyone seems to have approved of the riders we've announced thus far.

“Both Max and Ash will be able to concentrate on progressing in the senior leagues and I'm sure the likes of Brad and Ben will find places elsewhere.

“They have all been a pleasure to deal with and in the case of Max and Ash they have ridden a lot of meetings for this club and won plenty of silverware.

“We wish them, and all our former riders, the very best for 2017.”

Heathens are set to announce another new signing within the next 24-hours.
